The national transmission grid has reached Tilicho Lake’s base camp in Manang, bringing reliable electricity to the remote, 4,250-meter-high location. Previously dependent on solar and diesel power, the base camp now benefits from a 50 KVA transformer, powering 10 hotels, a health post, and small restaurants, serving 15 customers in total. This upgrade has reduced gas use by 40% as hot water and oxygen-level machines now run on electricity.
The Nepal Electricity Authority’s Executive Director Kulman Ghising emphasized plans to improve power reliability for the region, which attracts many tourists. Additional improvements are expected once a 220 kV substation in Dharapani, part of the Marsyangdi Corridor Project, is completed.
